HUNTER PRIMARY GIRLS RUGBY UNION 7’S TRIAL

Hunter School Sports Association- Primary Girls Rugby 7s – Girls

Nominations are invited from girls wishing to trial for the Hunter Primary Rugby Union 7’s Team.

Date: Friday 22nd May 2026

Event Venue: Ernie Calland Fields  Willow Road, Gateshead, Newcastle

Time : 9:00am to 3:00pm. Please arrive by 8:30am for a 9am start.

Cost: $10 per student payable in cash on arrival  to the zone manager (if part of a team) or Hunter convener (individual). This levy covers the costs of ground hire and the supply of referees, officials and first aid personnel.

Entry information
• Individual students approved by their school may nominate to participate in the trial.
• In order to trial, students must be turning 11 or 12 years of age in the current year and have experience in rugby or other contact football codes.

Students turning 10 in the current year need a sign-off from an ARU Level 2 qualified coach to trial. Students turning 13 in the current year cannot trial.

• Individual nominees approved by your school-
• The purpose of the trial is to select a team to represent the Hunter region at the NSWPSSA Rugby Union 7’s Championships. Nominated students must be willing to travel and compete at the championships

Format of trial

• Teams are divided to take part in a tournament during the morning.
• Players will compete in at least 3 games.
• Skills sessions will be conducted to assist with the selection process during the day.
• Skill sessions for players trialing for front row positions will take place during the day.
• The selectors chosen to watch all matches will include the Newcastle Hunter Rugby Union Development Officer.
• Selected players will be invited to participate in a final Possibles versus Probables match at the end of the day.
• Final selections are based on overall performances of players on the day.

Students attending trial

• Zone team players: please submit your signed and completed zone consent form and permission to play rugby union consent form (DOCX 72KB) together with your levy to your zone team manager on arrival at the trial. NO SIGNED NOTES = NO PLAY. Obtain the zone consent form from your school sports coordinator.
• Nominated individual players: please submit your signed and completed School consent form and permission to play rugby union consent form (DOCX 72KB) together with your levy to the Hunter convener on arrival at the trial. NO SIGNED NOTES = NO PLAY.
• Zone team players must wear their zone team uniform provided by their team manager.
• Individual nominees will be given a jersey for the day.
• All players must wear a mouthguard and football boots when playing.
• Please bring your own water bottle (clearly labelled) and adequate sun protection.
• Please bring adequate food and refreshments. A canteen facility will also be available.
• Please bring your entry fee, payable in cash to the zone team manager (for teams) or Hunter convener (for individual nominees) on arrival at the trial.
• Any postponement will be announced on this website and the Hunter SSA Facebook page.
• All players and spectators must abide by the Hunter SSA code of conduct located on the Hunter applications and forms page.
